Via Bella – Burke, VA

Review

A bland reckoning of a scampi, the folks at Via Bella call this a “Gamberi Scampi.” The shrimp is sautéed in butter, lemon, and white wine, and then served over linguini pasta. While ordering on the phone, they informed us that despite the lack of the menu listing as much, it’s indeed cooked with garlic. So, naturally, we asked for extra garlic. When it arrived, there was no garlic taste to be had. Sadly, the pasta was over cooked (but of high quality compared to many other scamps we’ve tried), which was only made worse by the bland, but buttery, white wine soup sauce. The shrimp was cooked a little too firm, and the “jumbo” shrimp weren’t super jumbo. It was a decent dish, but did not live up to being a “scampi” (see: lack of garlic, no parsley, no red pepper flakes), and we had higher hopes of Via Bella, whose other dishes are phenomenal. I ended up adding a ton of red pepper flakes just to give it a little pop. “Via Meh.”
